The artist is not known for overtly political commentary in his photographs. Though societal and economic observations are always evident, this picture  of a swastika (left) one of the few he made, and the only one displayed in the PMA show.

Says 'Sorry, Forget it!'

Dear Richard Carreno,

Thank you very much for booking office hours with me. As you may know, this exhibition (with all of its satellite components) is the first of its kind at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and I am very pleased to have you be a part of it!

Because the show has been such a phenomenal success thus far, many opportunities have opened up that conflict with my Museum obligations, including some office hours appointments. Though I have worked hard to avoid this outcome, it is with great regret that I must cancel your appointment with me on Friday, April 6 so that I can pursue a major project with the New York Times.

Please note that this cancellation does come with the promise of rescheduling! Because the office I use, however, has been generously offered to me for public use by Timothy Rub, the CEO and Director of the Museum, we are still working to determine when it is available. I plan on offering several dates for which I can make it up to you. It is my hope that you will be able to reschedule our meeting on one of them.

If you have any questions or concerns please reply to this email and either Justin or Emily (my two wonderful exhibition assistants) will be happy to respond. They will also get those make up dates to you as soon as we have it figured out. I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause given its short notice and am very grateful for your understanding. We will make this happen!

In Between Buildings
Philadelphia photographer Daniel Traub take on inner-city spaces, the vacant lots between row houses and other structures, is on display at The Print Center, 1614 Latimer Street, until March 5, 2011. Often littered, sometimes green, the city lots cut through the city like veins. Like bleeding veins, when they're strewn with litter and waste -- decontaminating nearby dwellings and neighbourhoods. Eight unframed prints are on sale, for $2,200 each.

Junto Photo: Richard Carreño Show Off Your Photos The The Philadelphia Conference invites all photographers to share their favorite images of 2009 for the annual Photo Night year in review group slide show. Please follow these rules to help make the slideshow construction go smoothly. All images must have been made during 2009. All images must be sized 10 inches on the longest size by 200dpi. All images must be saved as a jpg and compressed at 10max. All images need to have the photographer's name in the file name and a numerical sequence. (Example: dmaialetti001 for David Maialetti's first image.) All images must be submitted on CD/DVD. Please label the disk with your name and email address. Send the disk to David Maialetti by December 31, 2009 Send all disks to: David Maialetti, Philadelphia Daily News, 400 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA, 19130 The group slide show will be shown at the Pen & Pencil Club in January.
