'Don't Fence Me In'
Horses used by one of the horse-drawn carriage companies, employed in the tourist trade around Independence Mall, are singing the blues. They're packed in a block-sized stable and turnout in Northern Liberties, hardly the required space for the horses stabled there. Equestrian standards usually call for one-acre of turnout per horse, besides an individual stall. Facilities for these horses fall short short of the minimum. The stable is located at 2nd Street at American Street, just a block or two from the new upscale housing community known as Piazza at Schmidts. No one there is complaining of the manure smell -- yet.
