Chicago Is....

Art: Wood and Johnson

Grant Wood's iconic work, American Gothic, is a signature piece at the Art Institute of Chicago. Seward Johnson, known to Philadelphians for his 'Umbrella Man' statue in front of the Prince Theatre in Chestnut Street, reinterpreted Wood in a 3-D version of former's portrait. The 10-feet-high statue is located between The Tribune Tower and the Chicago River on Michigan Avenue.
